new vid! Doctor Who, Handlebars

Our Vividcon Premieres vid is up now:

Vid title: Handlebars
Song artist: Flobots
Fandom: Doctor Who (2005)
Vidders: Seah and Margie (Flummery)
Vidder website: http://flummery.org
Summary: I'm the Doctor. Look me up.

Notes: Thanks to merryish for the all the help, and especially all the baking, without which this vid probably never would have been finished in time. (she made us say that -- but it's true anyway.)

Right-click to download: http://flummery.org/handlebars/handlebars_dw_flummery.avi

There's a streaming version up on our imeem (http://flummery.imeem.com), but it's a little stuttery in spots and we're not sure why. Hopefully we'll get it figured out and fixed soon.

Imeem went boom, so we put a streaming version up on our site, which you can watch there or here:

ETA April 17, 2012: Our streaming vids are temporarily offline while we look into a technical issue. Sorry! The download still works, and we'll get the streaming version back up as soon as we can.

YES! I've been waiting so patiently!

That was amazing! Excellent 'Dark Doctor', which I love. Perfect!

Wow. Just... wow. Perfect song choice and structure for the Doctor - this was amazing.
Thank you! When we heard the song, we just had to vid the Doctor to it, and it's so cool to see that that's working for other people, too.
I love this vid so much. It was not just my favorite Premiere vid; it was my favorite vid from the entire weekend. Just... amazing. Thank you so much for making this.
Wow, thank you so much -- and thank you for the multiple (!!!) reviews/recs! We've both been absolutely flabbergasted by the response to this, both at the con and after, and I can't tell you how happy it makes us that the vid worked so well for you. Yay!

Oh, my God! Thank you for posting this so promptly. It was THE vid of the con for me this year and I've watched it about 5 times already and it keeps blowing me away every time -- the perfect tonal shift, how it's both fucking terrifying and witty as hell, the fantastic mix of the literal and metaphorical... YOWZA.

*fangirls you like mad*
Do you know, we had completely forgotten about the web version of the vid until about halfway through the actual con? People starting posting their vids, and we were like: "...huh." So we flew back, cabbed back, went straight to the computer without unpacking, pounded on the keyboard until we managed to export it properly, and then... fell into comas for 48 hours.

Thank you so much, we're so you enjoyed it!

Um. OMG. The last shot is the one that kills -- with a snap of his fingers -- but there are so many brilliant matches here I can't even name them all, except to say that Harriet Jones gave me shivers. The pairing of the fey and whimsical Doctor with the fierce song, and all those underlying images of his ruthlessness, just killed me. What a wonderful way to show him from all sides.
I love that last shot too! I've never found it so chilling.

And the Harriet Jones shot was perfect.

And then all the fire.

Oh, that was fantastic. Perfect choice of song, oh man. That really works for the Doctor, eh?
Thank you! And yeah, we heard the song and pretty much went straight to the Doctor -- it just summed him up so perfectly for us!
Wow, this was absolutely amazing. cathexys told me about this vid and I was listening to the song today and trying to imagine it -- of course it's a thousand times better than I could imagine. The movement through the song is so powerful, as the stakes get higher and the Doctor's playfulness acquires a violent edge. I bounced up and down with glee, and my skin crawled.
I bounced up and down with glee, and my skin crawled.

Dude. That is the coolest compliment ever. Thank you so much!
I have been listening to the song on repeat for the past couple of days, and the vid still gave me actual, physical shivers. I am so blown away I have nothing coherent to say, other than: this is why the Doctor creeps me the hell out.
*beams* Thank you!

Simply stunning -- the full range of the Doctor's power, and all his uses of it, and all the things he leaves in his wake. Gave me goosebumps and that oh my god feeling as I was watching, even knowing the lyrics that were coming. Brilliant.
Thank you so much!
Wow... Just, Wow! I adore it. I really love the Dark Doctor section the best, but that's just me :)
*beams at you* Thanks, Nin! (Why am I not surprised? *g*)
This is really good. I like how it shows both the good and bad things about what it means to be the doctor. I agree with the other comments that the ending gave me the shivers.
Thank you so much! We were really hoping that balance would come through, and that it would be shivery at the end, and we're seriously happy to hear that it worked.
Thank you!
How to say this and sound something like a sane person?

...I have been trying to say this in words for years. There have been maybe six people who even occasionally understood what the hell I was nattering on about. "Hey, you know all this crap Ten does? I don't like it. It goes too far. I don't think he's got the right and it's friggin' dangerous." "Hmm, that's an interesting take on his character." "No, really, seriously, it's not right." "Whatever."

Well, I don't know what you guys think of Ten or DW in general, but for even bringing this up... Thank you. Thank you so much. I am... god... almost in tears from gratitude right now. I couldn't explain why, but it means so much to me.

It would be an utterly brilliant and perfectly timed vid even if it didn't happen to push all my buttons. Seriously, I will bow to your genius forever. Thank you. *goes to pimp like hell to the six people who read her LJ*
Wow, thank you! And hey, that sounds totally sane, no worries. :) I'm fascinated (and incredibly happy!) with the way that people who react in all sorts of ways to the Doctor are reacting well to this vid -- so I think maybe more people than you think see the scary darkness in him, even if it's to varying degrees. So cool.

And thank you very much for the rec!!

Wow. That is... just, wow.

1. The clips went almost frighteningly well with the lyrics.
2. My desire to watch the new Dr. Who (already pretty large) has increased by a hundredfold at least.
3. I think I'm going to have to track down that song, too.

I am sure I'll be watching this vid over and over again. Fantastic.
Thank you so much! For 1), when we heard the song the first place we went was the Doctor; it just sums up so much about him for us. For 2), woot! For 3), http://flobots.com -- and amazon has it for a no-DRM $0.99 downloadable file, too. :)
Wow. The slow slide down from innocent glee into knowing abandon is downright sick. It starts out all wiggly fingers, funny glasses, smiles, then it gets heavy and irky at the "look at me" to "I can do anything...". I'm already hooked and flailing when the guns come in, the bomb, the years, the ugliness, the violence.

The clips in the second "look at me" make me cringe at the arrogance. From here on out I don't think I blinked. The lyric interpretations are great. Then of course it's the Doctor's glee at his fingersnapping that doesn't feel innocent any longer.

I feel like the shadows that pulled back after looking up the Doctor.

*hugs you possibly inappropriately what with not knowing you personally and all*

That! Yay!

And thank you so much for all of this; this is the stream of reactions we were hoping for, and it is so, so cool to see that it worked. *Especially* from someone who just vidded the same song recently; I haven't even watched your vid yet for fear that I'll bring too much of my own interpretation to it after being immersed in this one for so long, and I am hugely impressed, here, because wow.

So thank you, again!
